The Afghanistan Cricket Board’s selection committee has unveiled an 18-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the UAE.

Regular T20I captain, Rashid Khan, is absent from the main squad as he continues his recovery from a recent back surgery. Top-order batter Ibrahim Zadran will be taking over captaincy duties for the duration of the series.

Among the notable inclusions are fast bowlers Fazal Haq Farooqi and Naveen Ul Haq, who have reaffirmed their commitment to playing for the country.

Afghanistan are coming off their best display at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, securing four impressive wins, including notable victories against teams such as Pakistan and the 2019 champions, England.

Full squad:

Ibrahim Zadran (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Mohammad Ishaq (WK), Hazratullah Zazai, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Darwish Rasooli, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, Azmaullah Omarzai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad, Naveen Ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Saleem and Qais Ahmad.

Reserves: Rashid Khan, Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai, Ikram Alikhil and Gulbadin Naib have been included in the squad as reserves.

The highly anticipated three-match T20I series against UAE is scheduled to start on 29 December at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
