Broadcast records tumble as millions of fans tune in to ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has set more record-breaking numbers as hundreds of millions of fans engage with the biggest Cricket World Cup ever.
The ongoing World Cup in India has seen more fans in the home nation watching the tournament than ever before.
Broadcast Records Broken
The first 18 matches of the tournament saw 364.2 million viewers tune in, watching a combined 123.8 billion minutes of Disney Star’s live broadcast in India, which is a 43% growth compared to the 2019 tournament.
The monumental clash between India and Pakistan played on 14 October in Ahmedabad witnessed a peak live television audience of 76 million and 35 million concurrent viewers on digital platforms.

India’s clash against New Zealand in Dharamsala on 22 October set a new record for the largest ever concurrent digital audience, surpassing the India versus Pakistan numbers, when there were 43 million concurrent viewers on Disney+ Hotstar during the final overs of the match. This was the highest peak audience across any format of cricket ever on digital platforms.
“We are delighted to see the interest and engagement in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 through the unbelievable audience numbers on Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar,” ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice said.
“The World Cup has captured the imagination of the public across India with records tumbling and hundreds of millions of fans enjoying the pinnacle event of the one-day game more than ever before.”

Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports at Disney Star, said he expects the numbers to only keep on improving from such an impressive start:
“With the Indian team’s strong performance, the fluctuating fortunes of top teams, and a competitive points table, we expect a further increase in the momentum of the tournament.”
It’s not just on the screen where fans have been watching in their droves. 542,000 people had attended matches by the midpoint of the tournament, which is a 190,000 audience increase compared to the previous ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2019.
